My life as Mama Thompson

I have looked and looked for before pics...but I can't find any....so I will try to describe.
When David and I bought this house...we did a lot of painting before we even moved in...and some of my color choices...well, let's just say we lived with them for 3 years too long!

I feel like maybe I am finally coming into my own with my design style...I have realized and embraced that I truly am a traditional style personality, with a little bit contemporary mixed in.  So...slowly we (or I) are moving room to room to make some improvements.

Last summer we tackled the bathrooms.  David, really, did the tackling!  I just did the painting...and the picking out of things...although, David is rather opinionated.

Okay...so our home was built in the early 90's with an 80's vibe.  The bathroom cabinets looked much like my kitchen cabinets (which are getting addressed this year)...the mirrors were plain/boring and needed to come down.  Our shower was well...white...and porcelain...and dirty!  The walls in our bathroom, a not good blue (but I can only blame myself for that).

All of the bathrooms got new vanities, countertops and sinks (courtesy of Home Depot)...and new framed mirrors (courtesy of David and his building skills).  Our bathroom got new paint(courtesy of me) and a most fantastic new shower (courtesy of David and Trav).

Enjoy (note on the pics...taking pics in such a small space really doesn't do justice to the beauty which this bathroom has become)!

(that's a pic of the road to Hana...David and I are still fighting over who took it...does it matter?...it's perfect)! Oh...and if you don't have chair height toilets...you really should get some!

My bedroom is almost done and I will put pics up of that soon!

My living room...I made a decision that I wanted to add some color...so I turned the pillows over on my couch (one side was solid and the other patterned).  The color on the other side...a little bit of purple...hey, I like purple...let's run with it.  I spent countless hours looking for the perfect items to go on my big shelf ...I am happy with my mix of green and purple with metals, wood and glass...

Oh, but that wasn't enough purple...I saw Vern Yip paint a big red square on a wall to frame out some pics...and hey, what a way to add more purple...

I made some purple pillows to add to the couches and a large vase with purple filler on my piano to bring the color across the room.  I don't like that my tables are so empty, but my 2-year-old...well, you all know! (please don't mind the vacuum handle...I guess I was too eager to take pics).  I'm happy with how it turned out.  I'm sure all you real designers out there would do more...but I like it!  And even if you don't love purple...that square is pretty cool looking.  (Thanks Karla for your tips on getting the perfect lines).

The plans for March...get my art done for my bedroom....clean out the garage (oh man will those be before and after shots)...and maybe even tackle the craft room...I am feeling the itchings of Spring!!!

I love that square!! I really want to use it, will you share your tips for getting the lines straight? It is beautiful, I love the traditional, simple style.

Okay, I am so jealous of your bathroom. Ours is still the original 1987 everything, and only one of us can fit. Maybe soon we'll do something about that. And I love the purple square. It looks great! Can't wait to do the cabinets this spring - I just need to pick out a countertop and sink! Maybe I can try to grow that money tree in my backyard to do everything else...

I am so happy for you that you found your "style". You were so worried about it in Boise. But you did a fabulous job. And doesn't it just make being at home so much more enjoyable when you love what YOU did? I'll be waiting for more before and afters.

All I want to know, is the car the first thing Dave still sees when he comes down the stairs?
I love the room!

Does David want to come and tile our bathroom?

I love the purple square...I have one like that in our bedroom. Only it is yellow. So is your secret for straight lines caulking?
